Mission

Make checking a claim as immediate as making one.

Our premise

A claim can cross a room or a feed in seconds. The evidence usually arrives after the moment to act on it has gone.

01 / The structural problem

Journalism is careful and slow. Misinformation is careless and fast.

Better journalism does not close that gap by itself. The formats are working at different speeds. By the time a careful refutation is published, the original claim has moved on or changed shape.

Verum’s bet is narrower: put a sourced first answer inside the moment where the claim is made. Inside the conversation. Inside the share. Inside the scroll.

02 / Eight beliefs

The product decisions follow from these.

If a feature contradicts one, the feature is wrong.

  1. 01

Misinformation is a problem of speed, not stupidity.

A vivid, convenient claim travels faster than a careful one. The problem is structural, so the response has to meet it in the same moment.

  2. 02

Making a claim is cheap. Checking it is expensive.

Anyone can assert something in five seconds. Verifying it may take an afternoon in primary sources. Closing that cost gap is the work.

  3. 03

We add friction. We do not remove speech.

Verum makes a claim a little more expensive to pass on without a source. It does not decide what someone may say or see.

  4. 04

    Evidence beats authority.

A claim is not true because an expert, institution, or model says so. It holds up because the sources support it and can be inspected.

  5. 05

Confidence should be reported, not performed.

Some claims hold up. Some mislead. Others remain disputed or cannot be verified. A useful product preserves those differences.

  6. 06

We have a view on evidence, not on who should win.

The same standard applies to the person holding the phone and the person across from them.

  7. 07

A correction that arrives too late has already lost.

The source has to arrive while the next action is still undecided.

  8. 08

The tool informs. The person decides.

Verum surfaces a result and its sources. It does not cast a vote, mute a voice, ban an account, or decide what happens next.

03 / Lines we will not cross

The evidence standard applies to the company, too.

These are product boundaries, not launch copy. If Verum breaks one, hold the company to what it wrote here.

  1. Never 01Tune a verdict to favour a political side.
  2. Never 02Delete, hide, or down-rank someone’s post.
  3. Never 03Return a score without the sources behind it.
  4. Never 04Build a profile of what a person reads or shares.
