Mission

What we believe.

Verum Technologies builds tools that move faster than misinformation. The work rests on a handful of beliefs about evidence; here they are, in order.

1. Misinformation is a problem of speed, not stupidity.

People don't repeat false claims because they're foolish. They repeat them because a vivid, convenient claim travels faster than a true one that is complicated and dull. The problem is structural, so the fix has to be structural too.

2. Making a claim is cheap; checking it is expensive.

Anyone can assert something in five seconds. Verifying it can take an afternoon in primary sources. Until checking costs something closer to claiming, the false thing wins on speed alone. Closing that gap is the whole point of what we build.

3. We add friction. We don't remove speech.

Our job is to make a claim a little more expensive to pass on without a source. It is not to decide what you may say or see. We slow things down; we don't take them down.

4. Evidence beats authority.

A claim isn't true because an expert, an institution, or a model says so. It is true because it holds up against sources you can check yourself. Every verdict we produce links back to those sources, so you never have to take our word for it.

5. Confidence should be reported, not faked.

Some claims are clearly accurate, some are clearly false, many are genuinely contested, and a few cannot be settled with the evidence at hand. A tool that flattens all of that into one green check is lying about how knowledge works. Ours reports the uncertainty instead of hiding it.

6. We have a view on evidence, not on who should win.

We hold firm opinions about what counts as a citation and what "disputed" means. We hold none about which side you should be on. A tool that only fact-checks its opponents isn't a fact-checker; it is a weapon, and we won't build that.

7. A correction that arrives too late is worthless.

The fact-check published the next morning has already lost to the claim that ran the night before. So our tools work in seconds, in the moment a claim is made or shared, not in a column read too late to matter.

8. The tool informs; the person decides.

Verum surfaces the source and the verdict. It doesn't cast a vote, mute a voice, or ban an account. Given a good source in time, most people make a better call on their own, and we are glad to leave the call with them.

What we won't do.

Four lines we won't cross: we won't tune our verdicts to favor a side; we won't delete, hide, or down-rank anyone's posts; we won't hand you a score without the sources behind it; and we won't build a profile of what you read or share. If we ever break one of these, hold us to it.
